Wine tasting lunch at the Albert 1er Restaurant

Saturday 10 October 2026

Youri Greffe, head sommelier at the gourmet restaurant Albert 1er, invites you to discover the Trimbach estate

There are a few names in Alsace that need no introduction: Trimbach is one of them. Since 1626, when Jean Trimbach, having arrived from Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, set himself up as a winegrower in Riquewihr, the estate has never changed hands.

Thirteen generations have followed one another, passing down from father to son the same standard: that of a wine that is straightforward, unpretentious and true to its terroir.

The estate’s history took a turning point in 1898, when Frédéric Emile Trimbach was awarded the highest honour at the Brussels International Fair.

On that day, the Trimbach name left Alsace and made a name for itself on the international stage, a reputation that has never been tarnished since.

Established in Ribeauvillé since the 1920s, on the limestone soils of the geological fault that runs through the valley, the winery has made Riesling its flagship grape variety, which it regards as the most faithful expression of its terroir.

This philosophy has given rise to two wines that have become legendary in the world of wine: Clos Sainte-Hune, produced from a single plot at the heart of the Rosacker Grand Cru, considered by many connoisseurs to be one of the world’s finest dry Rieslings;

and the Cuvée Frédéric Emile, crafted from the Geisberg and Osterberg Grands Crus, a living tribute to the man who made the house a legend.

domaine de trimbach

The estate owes much of this style to Pierre Trimbach, Jean’s brother and the estate’s winemaker for over forty years, who passed away earlier this year.

It was he who, harvest after harvest, championed this quest for balance and purity that still defines every bottle of Trimbach today. Today, it is Jean Trimbach who represents the house on the world stage.

At the helm of the estate, with the thirteenth generation now by his side, he embodies the continuity of this legacy:

A lively, precise and taut style that has made Trimbach wines a global benchmark; over 90 per cent are exported and they are particularly popular in the United States, the company’s traditional market.

To have Jean Trimbach as our guest at the table is to welcome far more than just a winemaker: it is to welcome one of the custodians of a family history stretching back four centuries, and a rare opportunity to hear, in his own words, what it means to carry on such a legacy.

From 10.30 am, join us for a guided wine tasting.

The morning will continue with a gourmet lunch prepared by Damien Leveau, head chef at the Michelin-starred restaurant Albert 1er, where each dish will be subtly paired with the estate’s wines to enhance the overall experience.
